The Epworth Center has a rich history. It's located in historic Epworth Park, which was developed in the Chautauqua movement as a place of rest and renewal. The land was preserved for the massive oak trees.
Epworth Park was used as a United Methodist summer camp site. There were originally cabins on both sides of the lake. Now, Epworth Park is home to many cottages, which are owned by individuals who spend summer months there. It's a beautiful and interesting area to walk around.
Epworth lodge was built in the 1960s and was originally used as a learning center. With a change of focus needed, in 1996 a group of individuals created the SOWER Work Mission, which is the primary ministry of Epworth Center.
Since that time, other outreach ministries have developed, and the lodge and property has been improved. Some recent changes include:
- a handicap accessible restroom and ramp for the main floor of the lodge
- renovation of cabin 2, with air conditioning and more sleeping capacity
- a water garden by the lodge
- a prayer room
We are blessed to see God at work through the Epworth Center. We strive to be a place of peace and comfort, and to stay open to God's voice. We want to be the hands, feet, and smile of Jesus.
We encourage you to visit our pictures page for a look at our lodge, property and five cabins. Other information about SOWER and outreach ministries is also available. If you have specific questions, please contact us.
